Handel Town - Halle the Magnificent Seven
Halle is for a good reason considered the cultural capital of Saxony-Anhalt: all seven cultural icons are at home in this 1.200 year old city. These include the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, with more than 20.000 students, as well as the Art Museum of Moritzburg Halle (Saale). The birthplace of Georg Friedrich Handel, with an extensive exhibition on the life and work of the composer is also a culture site of the city as much as the Francke Foundations and the State Museum of Prehistory.
The "Nebra Sky Disk", which can be seen in the State Museum of Prehistory, has already been included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register since 2013. Last but not least are the Opera House, New Theatre, Puppet Theatre, Thalia Theater and the State Orchestra. As one of the leading music venues in the country with operas, operettas, musicals and ballets ensure the rich cultural heritage of this city.
And if you need a rest from the culture: Halle with its many parks and gardens is one of the greenest cities in Germany.
